P. 5337. Two freight trains are travelling along two parallel railways at a uniform speed. They pass each other in 20 seconds if they move towards each other, while it takes 60 s to pass if they move into the same direction. It takes 40 s for one of the trains and 100 s for the other one to cross a 600-m long bridge.

Determine the speeds and the lengths of the trains.

Megoldás. Jelöljük a gyorsabb vonat sebességét \(\displaystyle v_1\)-gyel, a hosszát \(\displaystyle d_1\)-gyel, a másik vonat adatai pedig legyenek \(\displaystyle v_2\) és \(\displaystyle d_2\). A megadott számadatok szerint fennáll, hogy

\(\displaystyle d_1+d_2=\left(v_1-v_2\right)\cdot 60~\rm s,\)

\(\displaystyle d_1+d_2=\left(v_1+v_2\right)\cdot 20~\rm s,\)

\(\displaystyle d_1+600~{\rm m}=v_1\cdot 40~\rm s,\)

\(\displaystyle d_2+600~{\rm m}=v_2\cdot 100~\rm s.\)

Ennek az egyenletrendszernek a megoldása:

\(\displaystyle v_1=20~\frac{ \rm m}{\rm s}=72~\frac{ \rm km}{\rm h},\qquad v_2=10~\frac{ \rm m}{\rm s}=36~\frac{ \rm km}{\rm h},\qquad d_1=200~{\rm m},\qquad d_2=400~{\rm m}.\)

Megjegyzés. Elképzelhető lenne, hogy a gyorsabb, de nagyon hosszú vonat megy át a hídon hosszabb idő alatt. Ez a lehetőség azonban ténylegesen nem valósulhat meg, mert a megadott számadatok mellett \(\displaystyle d_2<0\) adódna.
